Trauma - you don't have to hold it alone.


I was so traumatised during my first year of primary school that I didn’t learn anything.


The teacher was baffled, nobody could understand why.


What wasn’t understood was that I was unable to focus or retain any information because I was in survival mode and my world felt extremely unsafe. I remember hiding under my school desk when Santa came to visit the school. I was terrified.


I later went on to excel in most areas of school. I learnt how to do my school work and make the teachers happy but I was still in trauma.


I share this because I know how trauma can go unnoticed and children are still suffering in silence. Adults are still suffering in silence, some are unaware of the trauma they live with. I wish I could hug everyone who is struggling, to let them know that they are not alone and there is so much help available for them.


The great news is that there is so much that can be done to heal from trauma. Even better news is that when we heal from trauma we lighten the load for the next generation, we learn and grow and our compassion grows for self and for others.


I have transformed most of my trauma and turned it into love, compassion and understanding. I dedicate my life to compassion. Through my work as a Holistic Counsellor I am dedicated to supporting women to heal from their traumas and emotional pain so they can feel free and safe in themselves. Supporting my children to feel safe and heard is my daily focus. Recently, I asked my daughter if she felt worried about a distressing event that had occurred in our town, and she said “I am ok….if I was worried I would have told you”. Hearing those words made me feel so full of gratitude so blessed to know that she knows she can share any worries with me. I tell her on a regular basis that nothing is ever too bad that she can’t talk to me about it, that I am always here to listen to all problems, big or small.
